Snopaw’s Nightstar Escher “Charlie”

Snopaw’s Nightstar Domino Tref “Treffi”

Snopaw’s Nightstar Eclipse “Hamish”

The first thing any potential owner of a Tibetan Terrier needs to know is – they aren’t for everyone. If you want a dog who is always obedient then a Tibetan Terrier is not for you. It’s not that they can’t learn. I think they just don’t see any point in obtaining a higher education. This doesn’t mean they aren’t intelligent. It’s just that - from an obedience standpoint - you’d never know that they were paying attention to you.

We have a Tibetan Terrier named Hamish. He marches to a different drummer and dances to his own song. This is a polite way of saying he’s his own little dog. He’s also curious and courageous. Hamish is happy spending his time investigating all the wonders around him. He also likes to be “on guard” and spends lots of time gazing out over our property from the vantage point of the back deck. We’re alerted to any squirrel or bunny who dares to venture onto the lawn.

Tibetans have excellent hearing. Either that or they have a very good imagination. I swear that Hamish can hear a leaf floating on the breeze. But when called to “come” he suddenly becomes deaf as a post. I can be standing ten feet away, give the “come” command and … nothing. At least that’s what he wants us to believe. I don’t think he does it to be disobedient. I think he’s so intent on whatever he’s doing that he really doesn’t hear us calling him. It’s that different drumming and dancing stuff.

He can, however, be coerced. Hamish learned his name in a matter of moments. I think he figured out that there might be something in it for him if he responded to his name so he paid attention. The second word he learned was “cookie”. He’ll do almost anything if he thinks there’s a cookie coming his way. We’re still working on “come”, “sit”, “stay” and the other basic commands. But say the word “cookie” and he’ll come running as fast a
s his little paws can bring him.

He makes up for his total disregard for our commands in other ways. It’s so great to find him waiting at the bedroom door every morning – just so he can say “hello”. And he gives the nicest, gentlest kisses when he says “good morning”. It’s hysterical how he can be so sedate one moment and turn into a wiggle worm when he’s allowed up on the bed. And it’s so much fun when he bounds up into my lap and snuggles in for a little visit – and maybe a nap.

I guess you know where this is going. TTs may not be for everyone. But our Hamish is the TT for us.

Snopaw’s Nightstar Oreo Shylo “Shylo”

SHYLO - the former Orca from the Lexi/BJ litter, born May 7, 2007, lives a little North of Timmons, Ontario with Louise, Phil and his Beardie sister, Morgan. Shylo is an active TT who goes for daily long walks and has many adventures with his human and dog friends. Shylo was the puppy that liked to swim in the puppy water d
ish and he still loves all puddles and the creek nearby and any water that he can find! As a result, he is bathed frequently and groomed so well that he always looks very handsome. Louise’s mother - his human grandmother - even makes him specially knitted bows for his
hair! Shylo loves to assist Louise with her work with Seniors, (Louise says he is better than meds) and he goes to school with his fellow grandkids and helps in the classroom. Everyone loves him as he is a very good boy…well, most of the time! After all, he is a TT!!
